    I've always set my ball up to hit the "seam" on the cover. I'm curious to see what Titleist says about this.

    The seam was a popular hitting point in the 90's and worked...now I believe that is no longer the case with advanced technology that Titleist uses...

    I've always understood that for more distance the ProV1 alignment arrow on the side of the ball should be parallel To the fairway. For more spin, the alignment arrow should be perpendicular to the fairway. That may not be true, but it's always how I place my ball on the tee.

    Titleist doesn't care. Conforming USGA balls can't have directional alignments. How you see the ball on the tee is what is important. If you need to hit it on the numbers, then put the number dead center at the back.

    I'm with Don and the other Chris! I like to better define this problem by Angle of Attack (AoA). For driver I like to see neutral to positive AoA.

    Yeah i'm with Don on this. I've never heard of this before where placing a ball on the tee a certain way will increase your distance. How do you explain the process when you're ball is in the fairway, rough or bunker? Can't pick it up and place it a certain way right?

    I always set the ball up on the tee where i see no logo, nothing. Just plain white. And i do that so i don't get distracted. After that, I play as it lies and i stuck it up :)

    Good question though.. Never thought about that...

    I also greatly prefer to tee my ball so that there's a great blank white space for me to look at. I recall this is easy to do: just put the "V1" right on the tee, and the flip side is blank.

    This is the reason I never take advantage of the personalization offer, btw. If I could simply specify a number — maybe 42 for Mariano Rivera — then I'd go for the offer.

    I didn't realize you couldn't just order the custom number on the ProV 4 for 3 offer. I'm too much of a ham to resist that. BTW, there was a non-conforming ball advertised a couple of years ago. You could line it up on the tee as directed and it would resist side spin. Which is what made it non-conforming. Never bothered - it would be almost unplayable on the 2nd/3rd shots not knowing if it would resist fading/drawing.

    It's not about where the driver hits the ball, but where the ball hits the driver. Concentrate on hitting the center of the club face first and formost.

    Hi Ray,

    It depends. To maximize your driver distance, do you need more or less drag force for your swing?

    I've heard of what you're referring to, I believe that was the 1st generation Pro V1 and yes you would line it up on the seam. After the 1st gen there was no visible seam anymore.

    Too technical for me and too many additional swing thoughts. I tee it up and try to put a good swing on the ball, ensure that my club head meets the ball squarely and if I do the balls flies high and long. Think that is what Titleist had in mind. If you have the properly fitted equipment in your hand and you swing is right, the number one ball in golf will pop off that club head like it is intended and hopefully it is a Titleist driver.     The original Pro V1 had the seam that you would line up with the fairway to reduce spin. Titleist has since removed the seam so it performs the same in any direction. I still place the aim line under the ball on the tee with the Titleist scripts on each side, when hitting tee shots. I just want to see "white & round" on top and behind.

    AFTER READING THE REPLIES, IT APPEARS PERSONAL PREFERENCE IS PERHAPS THE MOST IMPORTANT.....BUT....I WOULD STILL LIKE TO HEAR WHAT A BALL SPECIALIST AT TITLEIST HAS TO SAY.......ILL ASK GENE MIRANDA PGA MASTER PRO AT THE USAFA THAT SAME QUESTION AND GET BACK TO YOU GUYS.....RAY
