The One Hop!

I play in a 2 man monday after work golf league at Yankee Trace Golf Course in Centerville Ohio. We were playing a tough competitor and had a couple rough holes going into the 161 yard downhill par 3, number 7 on the Heritage Course. In previous weeks we had been playing through what felt like gale force winds and this day was unbelievably calm. Walking up to the tee my partner is explaining to the team we are playing how on opening day of the league i hooked my tee ball about 90 yards right of the green, remember now there were "gale force winds". Jack hits his ball and sticks it to about 7 feet, he continues to tell the story after his shot as i am teeing my slightly scuffed PRO V1 from the cart path encounter it had on number 6. I had 8 iron in hand although i had debated 9 but decided soft 8 was more appropriate. Soft and smooth off the club face and on a great line, the green is covered in shadows just after the pin as its starting to get late, it hits the green on line for the pin about four feet shy. One big hop and disappeared, "WHERE DID THAT GO?" i said, everyone insisted that it ran into the shadows and one even said it was short. I wasnt 100% it was in but my heart was racing. The others hit their shots and we rode up to the green in anticipation. Walking up we see no balls in the shadows as i timidly lean towards the pin to investigate what i might find in the cup. "WHOOOOOOOOOO" I yelled, everyone congradulated me and we finished the round, the rest of my round went to hell as all i could think about was the magical ace i had made. A ball in the water on 8 for a double and sluggish par on nine to close the round but i will remember that round for the rest of my life. Jack may always tell the story of my round one shank off the tee but i can back it up with a hole in one as well.
