Monterey Magic

It was a Friday that started out like the last seven weeks... a calculus exam. As a Naval Postgraduate School student living in Monterey, I'm constantly conflicted with the dilemma of studying for class or playing golf. My parents drove up from Southern California this particular weekend to spend time with their grandkids which means my dad and I have to fit in a round of golf. My dad, an avid golfer who taught me everything I know about the game, and I have close to 200 rounds together, dating back to my elementary school days when he let me play from red tees. After my calculus test, I met my dad over at Monterey Pines, our local course that isn't too long but a lot of fun to play. I started off kinda rough but ended up shooting a four over on the front. I kept it pretty consistent on the back; I wasn't playing great but wasn't playing bad either. When we got to 17, normally a par four, but due to construction, it was playing as a 155 yard par three. It was a red flag with a little wind from the back, so I was in between clubs. I decided to hit a three quarter 9 iron. I teed up a Titleist 1, the same ball I started the day off with, that came from a sleeve my buddy gave me a few weeks back that I finally cracked open. I started the shot of well right since I tend to hit a strong draw when I hit a three quarter shot. It was looking nice right after it came off the club but I wasn't expecting it to go in the jar. The ball landed one inch above the cup and fell in. I was completely shocked. You can tell in my face how surprised I was if you watch the video my dad took of me on the tee box. When we walked up to the green I couldn't believe it. I've been playing golf my whole life and this was my first hole-in-one. What made it even better was that my dad was able to be there to see it in person... and I shot a 76!
