Was just a normal Thursday night men's league match at Bala Golf Club (Philadelphia) and I had just made bogey from the middle of the fairway on the 15th hole and the match was now at -2 two. The bad guys were winning. However, what came next was the most unsuspecting event of my golf career. Hole 16 is a downhill short par three and stretches to a max of 105 yards, but William Flynn guarded it with 4 bunkers that just about surrounded the green completely with only walking openings in between each one. Everyone else had hit their shots and my partner Dr. Perkel had just hit it to 6 ft, so we were looking good to win the hole and I was just looking to get it close to give us two shots at birdie. Normally I hit a soft 50 degree wedge to the middle of the green but there was so wind in my face. So, to stay consistent with my swing type I like to take on the hole, I clubbed up to my 46 degree SM6 Vokey wedge. I stepped on the tee box in and stared down the middle pin location which happened to be playing 101 yards. I took a couple practice swings, just kidding, who has time for that. I took that nice smooth swing and as I am looking at the ball flight its headed right at the pin, but suspect as its happened many times prior the wind knocks it down and it would fall short. Not this time, it hit 4 feet short of the pin, checked twice and rolled right at the pin and fell in from the right side. The group erupted with pure excitement and I hadn't even realized what happened until Jamie came towards me with a high five and chest bump! That moment will always be remembered and just like that we were -1 and we had two holes to go in the match. We didn't win, but what this night did teach me is that you're always one great shot away from greatness and moments like this. To anyone that is reading this, never give up, play hard, and play to win and if you don't win, learn how you can get better for the next time you play! This hole-in-one is dedicated to my Grandfather, Opa, who took the time to teach me the game and while he wasn't there to witness it I know he was looking down upon us that evening!
