Tragically, one of my best friends died in a freak accident. When I golfed it was almost always with him, and when he died, I had no desire to ever play again. 3 months later, another dear friend insisted I get out and play. He said "Lets play 4 holes, if you still dont want to play, we'll go home" So off we went and the fourth hole was a par 4, that day playing 302 from the whites. I mentioned how I always would "lay up" with my 3 wood and Bill would always break my chops as he would always go driver. Dean, my playing Bud this day suggested I go driver in honor of Bill. I grabbed the driver, litterally held it to the sky and said out loud..."Bill, Help me out here." I hit it well and thought it had a shot of rolling up to the green. We saw it roll at a pretty good pace towards the flag and then disappear. I thought it went off the back but Dean had a hunch. As we got to the green, Dean walked right to the hole, looked down and let out a yell, "It's in the hole!" It was the first ever and only hole in one at my club's par 4 number four! Word spread quickly and a few holes later my club's Pro drove up to confirm and congratulate me. as he was walking away he said, "You know when you get to Heaven and see Bill, he's going to say "that hole in one you had; it wasn't you!" It is a cherished memory!
