Double Eagle or Albatross

My Saturday Mens Club had a "travel"day planned where we played Makani Golf Club on the Big Island of Hawaii. Hole 15 at Makani is a drivable par 4 playing at 248 yards. The tee box is elevated, the narrow angled green is also elevated as it sits in the back right corner, surrounded by OB on the right and around back. Short of the green is a rock pond on the left and a bunker on the right which really narrows the opening. The majority of players will use an iron or hybrid and lay up down the left side. But that's no gimme since you'll be facing an uphill wedge where you can see only the top of the flag to a very narrow green. I wasn't playing that bad today so I decided to go for the green and waited for the group ahead to clear. The scope showed the yardage at 248 to the flag, 236 to the front of the green with a calm wind. My driver range is pretty consistent in the 240-250 range, especially since I've started playing with the Titleist DT TruSoft golf balls so I felt confident with my slight left hand fade and little wind, the green was reachable. While I waited for the group ahead on the green to clear, my three playing partners all layed up down the left side. My drive was perfect, hit down the right side with a slit fade, landing softly on the front of the green and rolling towards the flag. Then I didn't see it. Okay, may it went past the flag towards the back or off the green, or maybe it's in the CUP!!! When we reached the green and didn't see my ball, my cart partner walked up to the cup to see if it had fallen in. I knew it had when he let out this loud roar. I was a little stunned. WOW! A hole in one on a par 4. Albeit a short driveable par 4, but that's why it's there, risk/reward. A great memory, and my bar bill wasn't that bad since there were only 18 of the 36 members playing today. After I filled out the paperwork at the pro shop to verify the hole in one details, Makani Golf Club gave me a souvenir flag, which my group all autographed.
