It was a beautiful afternoon in late October. Red, orange and yellow painted trees lined the fairways. Our foursome just finished the par 5 #14- the other 3 guys birdied the hole while I saved a par with a nice up and down. On the tee box of the par 3 #15, the afternoon had settled into a peaceful calm with a gentle breeze coming off of the creek that lined the left side of the hole. I was last to tee off. The pin was scoped at 106 yards. Using the Approach Wedge, I settled into my routine. The club moved crisply through the ball sending it into flight. As it soared directly toward the pin, my playing partners could be heard saying, "be the right club" and "get in the hole." At just before 5pm, my shot landed inches short and left of the hole, bounced past the pin and spun back into the cup- just like on TV. It was perfect! After a momentary pause to process what just happened, both of my arms went up in the air and the words "it went in!" came billowing out of my mouth. My eyes darted towards my friends to see if anyone else saw the same thing. Did this really just happen? Indeed it did! High-fives and congratulations followed as the foursome now on the #14 green looked over with interest. We took time to memorialize the moment with several pictures- both on the tee box as well as on the green. The pure joy that I experienced as I knelt to pluck my ball from the cup was palpable. I can't help but smile each and every time this moment is replayed in my mind. Truly this is a golf memory that will last a lifetime!
