First Hole in One Is a Story of Two Nines
By Harmon B On 21 May 2012
My first ever hole in one came in the first round of our annual Stroke Play Championship. True to my 14 handicap, I struggled throughout the front nine shooting a disappointing 48. Feeling as if the tournament was probably already over for me, I decided to just relax and enjoy the weather. It was a georgous day here in the Washington D.C. area. I should have relaxed earlier. On the back nine I had a couple disappointing shots but birdied number 13 and then the ace on number 17 capped off a 39, which actually put me back in the Tournament. Number 17 played at 181 yards over a stream into a slight breeze and a very fast well bunkered green. My shot was a high draw and from the very moment it was hit every member of my group shouted this is going to be close. My ball hit the middle of the green and rolled up hill about 20 feet before falling into the cup. What an incrediable experience. I played better on the second day of the Championship and actually finished runner-up in my flight. So, the message here is start off and stay relaxed.
