Hole in one, a golfers story
By Daniel G On 30 October 2018
My name is Daniel Gard and this is the story of my first hole in one. I started playing golf 5 years ago and I went from a guy who just swung as hard as he could every swing to an actual golfer who planned out his shots. The day started like any other getting up and going to work to sit behind a computer screen, but little did I know that this day I would accomplish something that I had only seen on TV. I am a member at Lambert's Point golf club in Norfolk, VA and have played the course countless times over the past two years. That day I was only playing a few holes on my lunch break and was walking the course by myself. When I walked to the 8th tee box a gentleman that was coming off the 7th green invited me to join him for the last two holes. We started talking as there were to players ahead of us on the green finishing their putts. After Mike had hit his ball stepped to the tee box and went through my pre-shot routine, took aim, and swung my club. The shot felt great coming off the face of my club and never left the flag stick in the air. My Pro V1 landed on the green bounced once two yards short of the hole and released. I don't think that I blinked or breathed as I watched the ball making its way to the hole. When it dropped into the hole I looked at Mike and he smiled and said "I think that went in", to which I responded "I think you're right either that or it rolled over the hill" with a chuckle. As we walked to the green I tried to calm myself down by making small talk fully expecting to see my ball just beyond the flag. As I walk onto the green I look up and see the two players ahead of us standing on the tee-box holding up one finger, and no it was not that finger, and pointing towards the hole. Upon seeing my ball in the hole I immediately apologized to Mike and did a celebration dance on the green.
I do know that hole in one's are a very rare thing and that everything has to go perfectly for a player to get one. I have also been told that they are more lucky than skill. To all of the people that say this I would say that it is less likely to hit a hole in one if you hit it in the water then if you give yourself a chance by putting it on the green.
Thank you for reading my story and I hope to read how you got your hole in one soon.
