I was playing in a fundraiser for The Brain Tumour Charity at West Linton Golf Club on 25 August 2018. The format was Texas Scramble and I was playing with two friends who are West Linton members and a friend from California who was visiting Scotland at the time. The other three played first at the 203 yard 12th hole and one ball was just off the back of the green. I hit a high three wood which was always on a good line. The ball landed at the front of the green and rolled nicely up to a middle of green pin position and in. Because it was a charity competition, there was special hole in one insurance and prizes. If I had aced the 17th I would have won a small Toyota or £10,000. However I did win £1500 which more than covered the cost of the drinks in the bar! I waited 67 years for my first hole in one and it was wonderful to do it in the company of good friends playing a good course for a good cause. My home club is the Royal Musselburgh and I am also a member at Kilspindie.
