I didn’t play well in the third match of our member-member, and my first two tee shots on the back nine of our final match were so wide right . . . When I reached the 12th tee of Pequot Golf Club in Stonington, CT, I felt the need to change things up, and I said to my foursome, I think it’s time for a new ball, so I teed up a new Team Titleist logo ProV1x. At 143 yards, number 12 is nothing special, although it’s surprising how many tee shots come up short. Bunkers front left and right swallow anything short, and one wide bunker behind the green grabs anything long. The pin was in the middle, left of center, which favors my typical right to left ball flight. I made my swing and the ball drew as expected towards the flagstick, but the hole was masked by the bunker guarding in front of it. I knew it was a pretty good shot, and as there was a closest to the pin contest going on, I thought I might be in the running. After hitting our tee shots, we head towards the green. Two in the group were riding and got to the green ahead of me, and I said to the third that was walking with me, they don’t see my ball. My partner then walks towards the hole, looks down and throws his hands up - my first ace!
