Wasn't planning to play today

I was working from my home office this week and had plans to join the neighborhood Tuesday group at Heritage Club in Pawleys Island, SC where we all live, except mother nature had other plans. It was around 27 degrees that day so everyone begged off golf. On Wednesday morning I was headed home from the homeowners gym when my friend and neighbor Joe called to see if I wanted to play. After thinking about it for a few minutes and rescheduling my work, I decided to join Joe and another friend and neighbor Michael in a round here at Heritage Club. I opened up a new sleeve of Titleist, Pro V1 golf balls that I had personalized with MIKEY D emblazoned in red lettering. We are all fairly evenly matched (I'm currently a 12 handicap) so we agreed to a whopping $2 Nassau and played straight up. After making a few pars and bogies, we arrived at the 7th hole which my house is located on. It's a tough Par 4, dog leg right that I always find challenging. This day was no different and I quickly racked up a double bogie 6. When we arrived at the Par 3 8th hole, needless to say I was the last of our threesome to hit. The hole was playing 132 yds to one of the more difficult pin positions on this large, tiered and very undulating green. We often refer to this pin location as "death valley" because it is hidden from view by the mound of the green and a very difficult trap directly in front. With a slight wind in our face, I selected my 8 iron which I normally hit 140 yds. It was a great shot that I barely felt come off the club face was headed toward the pin. My buddies both commented that it was a great shot and would/should settle somewhere close to the pin. It is impossible to see from the tee box and until we walked onto the green, had no idea where my ball finished. Joe commented it was probably in the hole and when I walked over to look in the cup, there she was. A thing of beauty. High fives, fist pumps and joyous outbursts and pictures followed. My first hole in one (also with a Titilest Pro V1) was 25 years ago. This was as exciting if not more so as it happened on my home course, playing with great friends and neighbors.
