The Nader Cup
By James N On 15 June 2010
Four hungry boys running around the kitchen waiting for Thanksgiving dinner prompted my request of my husband to “take them somewhere – anywhere – just get them out of the house so I can get the food on the table”! My husband took them to play golf and started a Thanksgiving tradition that has lasted for fifteen years: The Nader Cup, an annual golf tournament that includes a father, his four sons, and a trophy.
Every year the boys start “trash” talking about “the cup” months before the event. Those who have not had time for a recent round of golf, get back on the course to practice for the big day. Two of the four sons have become avid golfers like their dad and a generous handicap is given to the others to even-out the odds.
Tournament highlights have included unseasonable cold weather that called for head covers to be used for gloves, championships that were determined by the last putt, and four brothers and their dad laughing through each round of tournament play.
The oldest son, E.J., won his second championship this year using a Titleist ProV-1. His name was added to the Nader Cup, along with other greats: John, Joseph, Jordan and Dad. And Mom gets the food on the table for a hearty Thanksgiving meal!
