National Fitting Centre or Local Shop

  1. In a month’s time I’ll be buying my second ever set of golf clubs.

I currently have a cheap Dunlop driver, which has done the job until now and got me into the game. And a set of TM irons that I bought from a colleague at work. They’re a mix of cavity backs (3-6i), and muscleback ‘blades’ (7i-SW). Finally a cheap LW.

Having got my game into decent shape, it’s time to upgrade my clubs and get a set that last me the next few years.

I want to get custom fitted, but custom fitted properly. Rather than just someone saying you need a stiffer shaft (my driver swing speed averages 104mph).

Is it worth going to the Titleist National Fitting Centre at St Ives (closest to Norwich), or my local golf shop which has Trackman? What generally is the difference in style of fitting session between the two?

Thanks for your help, and apologies if this is too much of a novice question!

    R.

Sorry I didn't get to St. Ives - was too busy as a Clunatic in Port Isaac during filming last year. Most carts at pro shops will have all of the stock shafts for the available clubs. So it is a reasonable selection to start. In my case, I have the stock metal shaft for an AP1 on the AP3. The National Center will have all of the available shaft from the custom fitting book. From stock to exotic. If you are comfortable working with the local pro, that should work well. At least in the states, the pro can "borrow" other shafts if the results from the cart options don't provide adequate results. I have gone to a US national center and my driver shaft was a variation of a stock shaft that isn't normally in many carts. I would have had to wait to borrow that shaft to finish the fitting. For the AP3 the stock shafts available worked (and are awesome!).

IF you're dead set on Titleist I would go to the fitting center. They will be the best verse in the product and can provide you a service that you can't get anywhere else.

By all means go to the Titleist National Fitting Center at St. Ives. They will have ALL THE COMPONENTS necessary not to mention the expertise to improve your game. The St. Ives venue probably has Trackman but I think it is important to get fitted by the best people in the business. These people are the experts and do it for a living! Good luck!!
  5. I've just had a fitting at the national fitting centre in Ireland.

Compared to any other fitting I've had in the past, they're worlds apart.

    Go to St.Ives.

    You'll be glad you did.

I don't think that you're going to go wrong on a Titleist Thursday event. These guys are very good at what they do and will get you set up with what will work best for you.
