It is designed for distance. I will be 80 in two months and at a 19 handicap and like the control of the Prov1. Distance wise my drives are around 210-220. Lost a lot of distance in past six years due to back surgery. Just went to regular shafts in my metals/woods in past two years. Got rid of all my Fujikura Speeder Tour Stiff shafted metals.

Best ball for High Handicappers?

Been playing about 7 months now, 26 handicapper here.

However, for each club I hit the V1 first and then, the V1x second, and I feel like I put better full-swings on all of the second V1x shots. Given that I really don’t like the feel of the V1x, particularly chipping and putting, and have an 85 mph swing speed, I am wondering if the V1 might be the better option, as I will be able to compress it better on full-shots, and play softer shots around the green. ProV1 is a little softer, a little lower flight and a little less spin. Generally I like the feel of the ProV1 but for my game it's the X. I have the unique problem of too much spin off the tee, and not enough spin around the green. I need all the spin I can get for my short game, and I actually get a bit more distance off the tee with the X.
Sometimes when hitting over a pond I will switch to the ProV1 for a little less spin. I can get an addition skip or 2 off the water, and sometimes that's all it takes.

RE: Pro V1 vs V1x

Always been a firm believer that different shots on the course with both ball types is the best way to determine what’s best for my game.

RE: Ball fitting for slower swing golfers

I started this thread about 18 months ago. About a month later with an accident on glare ice, had a substantial shoulder injury. Now recovered this year.

My game is more of a distance problem than dispersion, I don’t lose a ball every round. I get the results I like with the X. I use a yellow on overcast days, and one consistent I’m finding with mid-price urethane balls are the color is painted on and chips easily. The V/X balls can scuff off of a cart path, but color chipping doesn’t happen. I’m wiling to pay for quality than to add a ball or more per round to the shag bag.

From my own evaluation, lower priced balls don’t travel as far or aren’t as consistent around the greens. It matters getting the ball into the hole in the shortest number of strokes.

Ball fitting for slower swing golfers

I’ve happily used the X as my ball for the last 7 years. I’m now struggling to get to over 80 mph driver speed (stuff happens as you get older…) Just curious if any low speed golfers have done a serious green to tee comparison of a Pro-V model to either Tour Soft or TruFeel?
My curiosity was raised by a MySpy golf article that listed 2 piece surlyn as the best options for low speed swings. Neither Titleist ball was included. I have time to think about this as all the local courses are closed for the season. As well as my Pro-V ball supply may last well beyond 2025.

RE: Ball fitting for slower swing golfers
Aaron G said:

I checked the MGS 2025 ball test and I don't really see any strong recommendations for soft 2 piece balls for slow swing speeds. The fact is that, as swing speed drops the difference in ball speed between harder and softer golf balls get smaller, so someone with an 80 mph driver speed is probably going to see pretty similar balls speeds off the driver with all golf balls. Another way to look at it is that soft golf balls don't magically generate a ton more ball speed for slow swing speeds... that just not how physics works. At slow swing speeds, since ball speed is going to be pretty similar across all golf balls, distance is then going to come down to how well the spin and trajectory of the ball you pick match what your game needs. If you're someone that hits the ball with a lot of spin, you might get more driver distance out of a soft 2-piece ball because it is low spin. Or maybe you need more spin to keep the ball in the air longer so the V1x might be a better ball. Then, of course, there's wedge and greenside spin, which is definitely going to be lower for 2-piece balls and might be a bigger sacrifice than any possible gain in distance off the tee.

Totally agree, I’m 73, have a driver swing speed in the low 80’s, and normally hit a low draw. I’ll fell for all that marketing hype and “ friendly” advice that I needed to play a softer compression ball. From experience with a softer “senior/beginner” ball I found no difference in yardage and actually feel that I lost a bit of yardage off the driver. Secondly my flight was lower, I couldn’t hold greens with approach shots, and my green side game suffered along with my putting. So in my particular case, the ProV1X is still the best choice based upon my personal results. So for a ball that’s not advised for my swing speed nor my senior years, I see no drop off in yardage, improved trajectory/spin with approach shots, great wedge/green side control, and better feel/distance control with my putting. My friendly advice, experiment to find the ball that works for your individual case or get fitted, you might be surprised at the results.
Couldn’t agree more, I’m 73 as well and had the identical results and observations as you! I lost yardage with the ‘softer’ balls, my short game went in the tank, and putting very inconsistent with how it ‘bounced’ of the face. Appreciate your comment, glad to hear I’m not the only one that goes against the marketing hype for seniors needing a softer ball!

RE: Best ball for High Handicappers?

That high of a handicap doesn't need to be using a ProV1. Getting fit for either can help optimize the choice with data.
There are zero pros using AVX and they hit it higher and further than the average golfer. In the course of a ball fitting, the data may show if the height is hurting your distance. At 105 club head speed, it may feel too soft. These are factors a ball fitting can cover.
AVX has a market in slow and moderate swing speeds. With a lower descent it tends to roll out more with irons. Whatever feature fits your game is the best choice.

AVX Vs. New member here so please excuse me if this has been asked recently, although I have searched and could not find a related thread.

I have recently returned to golfing on a regular basis. While i was away attending school (Broke student life style) i played 1-3 times a year. Before that, while still in high school i would play 40+ rounds a year with a Hcp that floated around 10. I have played the ProV1 since I could swing the club with sufficient speed. During my absence from the game, Titleist launched the AVX. In this time my Hcp has climbed to roughly an 18-20 (Hard to get an accurate gauge on 1-3rds a year) but my swing speed has increased. I swing roughly 105Mph comfortably now and consistently hit a high fade.

I'm curious about everyone's experience with the AVX in comparison to the ProV1 that I typically play. I'm looking for a ball that would provide lower long range spin and a low launch angle as I naturally hit a high ball. Should I stick to the ProV1 or change things up? Thoughts, Opinions and personal experiences welcome.

Swing easy,
Carter.

RE: AVX Vs. I did ever ball quiz and then “consulted” ChatGPT and Claude with swing and ball speed, trajectory and decent angles, club distances and the course I play as we experience 2 club winds regularly. I’ve dropped from an 18 to a 11 in 20 rounds… lots of info but the AVX was always the suggestion - given a lower driver trajectory and wind. I’ve found them a good ball to play but expect to switch to the ProV1x or dash as the AVX doesn’t always hold the green even with a steep decent.

Again off the tee and 4 & 5 irons awesome but hitting greens from 190-170 (7&8 iron) holding has been inconsistent with roll offs

RE: AVX Vs. Best advice is as above - get a sleeve of V1 / V1x / AVX and LD and try them all on a quiet course one by one. I am a high spin player and settled on AVX/V1 as I couldnt stand the feel of the left dash, however, I did find it went a little further than the prov1.

I would also say, please dont neglect the short game impact too - start there and work back to the tee with whatever ball suits you and your swing best.

Good luck and enjoy!

Switch?

Thinking about switching from prov1 to left dash. Why Play Pro V1x?

Pro V1x is recommended for players who may benefit from higher-trajectory flight, low long game spin with higher short game spin, and firmer feel.

RE: Best ball for High Handicappers?

Try a bunch out.
