Switching from Pro V to AVX

Have any Pro V players on here made the switch to AVX? I've been reading up on the AVX and am considering a ball fitting to see if it suits my game more than the Pro V I currently play.

Vx is out of the question as I require a lower ball flight, whilst distance isn't too much of a concern. I'm looking for feel/control with low flight but can the AVX beat the Pro V in these areas?

  2. Lefty,
Have to say I fall in and out of love with ProV1's on a regular basis. Find I keep looking for something extra but I'm not sure what it is! I am currently officially out of love with ProV1.
I often go for Velocity in winter as I've got a couple of boxes left over from various presents. They are, however, not soft enough in summer. I've used TourSoft this summer and they've been pretty good.
Decided to give AVX a run on holiday in Portugal last month and they were very impressive. Good distance but responsive around the green. There seemed, to my untrained eye, to be little difference in ball flight characteristics but they are certainly my current favourite and I'll be going with them again when it stops raining!!
For some reason I can't explain I particularly like the yellow AVX - never favoured a coloured ball before...

Having been at a recent Team Titleist Regional event where there was an input on the ball range I personally won’t change from Pro V1. The mental aspect of what works to you is definitely worthy of consideration but listening to science it’s hard to argue.
Sounds time consuming but genuinely go and get fit for a ball in the Titleist range. See what the numbers tell you and you will know what performs rather than thinking?

Thanks for the response guys, after posting this I realised there's a dedicated side the the forum for discussing golf balls!

I currently use the 17/18 Pro V and I've purchased half a dozen AVX and 2 dozen Pro V 2019 from a friend to give them some on course testing.

If I prefer the AVX after the on course test I may go for the fitting to get the true numbers.. According to a Rick Shiels video, the AVX is the ball to play in windy conditions.

I normally play Velocities but a few months ago I won a box of AVX’s. Decided to give them a try. All I can say is they are amazing, I was immediately impressed with the distance and feel off the tee. Each shot after that impressed me more and more. I have tried Pro V’s but they always felt hard with each shot. I have gone back to velocities but could not get the same feelings that I got with the AVX’s. No turning back now AVX all the way!

    Lefty,

I've just switched back to Pro V1 from AVX as the 2019 ball seems to have a lower flight off the driver for me than the previous V1 and comparable to AVX . As I won't be buying balls this side of the 2020 3 for 2 offer (hopefully) so I'll be Pro V'ing through the winter, although I might try a sleeve of the TruFeel for comparison purposes.

As greens are softer during the winter the extra drop and stop of Pro V's over AVX is probably negated at this time of year although I found the AVX was great in the wind.

Getting the numbers would be a good thing but on course is where it matters with dry/wet ball and differing lies.

There's a mental side to trusting the ball you play and if it has the Titleist script you're on the right lines.

There are some good Titleist ball fitting videos on My Golf Spy www.youtube.com/watch

Thanks for the replies - I'll hopefully receive the balls I ordered this week and get to test the AVX with a 2018 Pro Vx, 2018 Pro V 2019 Pro V on a links course in Devon.

I'm hoping the AVX could be a winner for winter with its strong flight through wind and shallow dimples potentially running out more on wet fairways

I have changed from PRO V1 to PRO V1X after the recent invitational days.

Its well worth getting a fitting.

An update after testing the AVX in some wet and windy conditions..

Highly impressed with the performance of the AVX.. The flight is strong with a noticebly low/solid trajectory, not deviating in the wind and rolling out well on wet fairways. Stopping power hitting into greens the AVX has the capability to check up and spin back giving confidence with its control, not quite as much spin as a Pro V1 on short chips. The AVX is also durable, showing minimal signs of use after 18 holes.

All in all I'm going to keep this ball in play throughout winter. The low spin, low trajectory and shallow dimple pattern are a winner for winter weather. I'll likely pull out the Pro V1 for par 3 holes but the AVX more than holds it's own and has earned its place in my bag.
