Ballooning long irons- Tour White AMTs

  1. I was fit into AP2s with S300 Tour White AMT shafts. I've noticed, in particular, I'm hitting my 2 (T-MB) 4,5, and to a lesser extent my 6 iron abnormally high for my typical ball flight. In addition, my distance with those irons is certainly not what it should be. Ball striking seems to be very good for the most part and my short irons 7-PW don't appear to be as much of an issue, if at all.

I've tried a few different things such as moving the ball back a bit further in my stance, but it has not made a significant impact on the ball flight and distance. Could this be a shaft issue? I previously played DGs with the same shaft weight across the board and my flight and distance was so much better. Not all that impressed with AMTs so far even though they say they are essentially DGs.

    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I would guess that you are correct in that the new shaft is what is causing the change in flight and distance. If you can get on a track man, hit those long irons next to another set of ap2’s with standard dynamic gold shafts and take a look at the launch and spin rate between the two. The AMT’s May be putting too much spin on your ball causing it to balloon and lose distance.
