  1. I live at Pinehurst, and we just got brand new Titleist range balls in, these practice balls are white and have the word practice on them in all different colors. Just the word practice is in different colors. Does anyone know what kind of Titleist ball these are?

Most Titleist "practice" balls are bulk ProV1 and ProV1x although it is possible they have provided some courses with Tour Speed and Tour Soft versions. I guess we should say they are old generation TruFeel balls so that they get hit down the range instead of finding their way into player's golf bags. :) PGA Tour uses production balls from the multiple manufacturers during tournaments, bagged by each brand and ball model. Not marked "practice" and are just like boxed versions in the store. Volunteers get to sort them out each evening after the range picker gathers all of them up. Things have changed over the years...

We used to use Titleist on our range, but too many ended up in members bags. Now it's a mix of cally and tm.

Thinking back to Tincup, Romeo was impressed that the range balls were Titleist and wanted to pocket a couple for use in the tournament. My guess is the Pinehurst range balls are one of the Surlyn 2 piece balls. Partly to minimize shrinkage but because they get hit so many times. Durability is an important driver.
