  1. When going to the range for practice do you practice all clubs?

Do you Do the same routine every time? Or do you go to the range with the purpose of practicing one club or group of clubs.

For example do only you practice driver and 3 wood.

When I go to the range I am usually focused on a specific area or aspect of the game. In a given range session I may be focused on short game (9-LW) or mid-irons (6-8) or long-game (5-driver). And I don't really have a set routine. The only thing that is very consisitent is that I warm up with my 6 iron, unless I accidently grab the 7. Half shots and such to warm up before getting a few full swings - then on to whatever Im working on for that session.

Because I am fortunate enough to be able to practice whenever I want, I mix it up. Odd number irons one time and even number ones the next. Always end up putting no matter what. Other days, wedges, woods ,chip and pitch. If I was time challenged, then I would go thru the whole bag.
  4. I practice my short game more than anything as that's the scoring zone
I hardly hit any balls with my driver
I practice with a purpose as I see so many people hitting too many balls on the range and They call it practice
The biggest thing for me is practice course management

I make a plan before going to the range. I know what I want to work on and I stick with that plan. I don’t waste time trying to decide what clubs to hit. Recently I knew I needed to work on my mid and long irons. So I only hit my 5, 6 and 7 irons. Other times I may create a range game where I give myself targets or envision playing a certain hole on the course. That gets me hitting different clubs on each shot at different targets. Really anything to break up the repetition of hitting the same club over and over.

Assuming we are talking practice and not pre-round warm up, I go with a purpose. I never start a practice with hitting full shots. I will usually spend a little time chipping, pitching and putting first to loosen up and get a feel for swinging the club. If I have a new driver or struggling with drives, I will only hit a few wedges, then a few 6 or 7 irons, then move to serious work on the driver or whichever club is misbehaving. Always with alignment sticks and maybe a specific drill or thought to correct whatever ball flight or contact issues I need to resolve. If no one club is an issue, I might go with several different clubs spending most of the time with wedges and short irons as those are your important scoring clubs. Some sessions are short game only, not even hitting full range shots, only pitching, chipping, and putting. My routine is not for everyone and there is nothing wrong with the casual golfer who's practice routine is to crack open a cold one before the first tee. Have fun out there!
  7. It really depends on what hasn't been working. I tend to concentrate on those areas to get them back where I would like then hit just a few with some other clubs just to keep them going smoothly.
  8. Everyone has different practice sessions and as you say what works for one person may not work for another

Make practice fun as well otherwise you will get bored doing it
  9. Yes I practice with everything in my bag from wedge upto driver it's a must
  10. Thanks for the suggestions. I will keep it in my mind.
  11. I always started with a 9 iron and I have been playing for over 58 years. I played with very good golfers with very low handicaps. Practice is necessary to be good. Dont forget the flat stick.

For me, it's usually an 8 or 9 iron. When I do go to the range, I'm looking for consistent ball contact. My misses tend to be chunks.I don't need to hit every club in the bag to rectify the problem.Working with a couple short irons seem to help.
