My game has been lacking since November as some of you are aware. Played two rounds in November, had injection in spine, played two rounds in early in December, had injection in Spine. Went on cruise in January, came back had another injection in spine. The results of the injections were minimal for about a week and the pain in the lower back L5 and lower leg always returned. The quality of life, well there has been none, when you cannot walk without pain. Went to my Dr at the spine institute yesterday and the are doing foraminotomy surgery on me at 1230 am Thursday. This will hopefully eliminate the spurs on my spine at L5 that are pinching the nerve that is causing all my pain. I will be in the hospital overnight, and they plan on me walking out of the hospital on Friday. No driving for two weeks, walking up to two miles a day during the first 4-6 weeks, then 4-6 weeks of physical therapy. Will be cutting it close, but hope to make the RBC pro/ams at Hilton Head in mid, then our cruise on the Rhine in June. Oh year, then back to playing golf that I have so missed, the walls are caving in. My clubs are gathering dust and have not been able to walk in years. Who knows what the end result will be. He says I will be able to play golf. No worries. At least I can ride and play.

You know we will be thinking about you Chuck. I'm sure all will go well. Hopefully your doctor is bad at golf, you know, a good slicer. Keep us posted on the recovery progress and hope to see you at some future events.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and good wishes. Dale you made me laugh, that was a good one. =)
Microscopic surgery, gently scraping off the spurs and will last about 3-4 hours. At least I will get a good solid nap while he is doing it. Maybe I can make another hole in one in my dreams. Hoping to see everyone in October, if this goes well. Will update in a few days. Trying to find the right tops to wear with zip fronts. All these FJ pullovers and three quarter zips will not work for a while. Cannot raise arms for a long while and will be wearing a back brace for a number of weeks. I have a wonderful nurse that will ensure I stay on track. Has told me we will be going on the Rhine River trip and that I WILL be doing what the doctors say. And you know what they say in the military, yes sir/mame. No worries.......again, thanks to all.......

I had L5 discectomy 20 years ago, before micro-discectomy existed I guess. Take it easy, man. Do what the doctor says and do not push it. Get a great physical therapist and do exactly what they say. No less, and -- this is important- no more! Don't do a few extra things just to prove how tough you are. It can set you back. Do what they say and follow the schedule. Better to have a lifetime of golf than a few extra weeks because you rushed back. God bless and get well soon.

You know the saying, you have to crawl before you can walk, then they let you when they feel you are ready to run.
The Dr and the PT are the boss. They have me on a very strict schedule. Four-six weeks of walking up to 2 miles a day and then four to six week of pt at the spine institute with home exercises and a wife who will be watching every move. She had four ruptured discs in the early 80s and had a wonderful recovery, so she will be my motivator and coach also.
