Heading up to Durham to play Mill Creek Monday and Hillandale on Tuesday with an old buddy who use to be a member at Dunes West CC in Mt Pleasant. Bent grass, pine trees and tight fairways from what I can read on the internet. An insight from the community. Look forward to a little golf and renewing old friendships.

Welcome to the area! Mill Creek and Hillandale are quite different. Mebane's MC is a tranquil parkland style with many secluded holes and then weaves thru nice homes on the latter half of the back. Only hole I do not like is the 10th as I find it crowded in. It's usually in very nice shape but I have not played it this year.
Hillandale is in Durham, just off I85 and busy Hillandale Rd. It is usually busy with both carts and walkers. Pace of play may be slow. Always friendly folks in the pro shop and a very homey atmosphere. Unpretentious and welcoming but it's a little rough around the edges. I believe the greens were converted a few summers ago to Bermuda and they roll nicely. Be careful crossing the road!
We haven't had much rain in the past 5 weeks so you may run into some fast fairways sprinkled with crunchy dry leaves. Last week's temps were in the high 90's but this week the temps will be much better. Enjoy!

Enjoy the trip Chuck. Always enjoyed Mill Creek as it is typically well manicured and a pretty fair layout. Lance nailed the description and weather effects. Have never tried Hillandale.

Enjoy the cooler weather and play well.

Feel free to tell us how you enjoyed the northern Carolina!

Loved MC. Offered some challenges and the greens had been sanded but yet were very puttable. Will definitely play it again when in the area. Price was right for seniors at $34 on a Monday morning. Durham Municipal (Hillandale) greens were in great shape. The pin placements made for an interesting and sometimes difficult day with the speed of the greens. The back nine played difficult, with 20 mile an hour winds in our face most of the day. Again, great senior rates at $27. We played in less than 3.5 hours even though we waited on the last five holes. No rangers on course. Awesome pro shop personnel. Found some items I had been searching for. Folds of Honor hybrid headcover to match my FOH bag and an orange Nexbelt which they no longer make. We played from the senior tees making for short par fives and drivable par fours in some cases. Wind is definitely not my friend. Enjoyed my two days of golf with my buddy. Ate at a pretty good seafood place in Chapel Hill, Squids. Kinda spoiled, living in Charleston area, where seafood is king. Overall, great trip. Visit with friends, priceless..

Sounds like you enjoyed the trip! To share it with an old friend is even better...
