I will be playing TPC Scottsdale the week after Christmas as our family gets out of the cold of NE Ohio. We will have a forecaddie, and it will be cart path only due to being only less than 2 months from the tournament.

Anything special to know that those of you that have played there before? I know that the 16th will be great, and the grandstands will be going up, but anything else. I’ve been on the property more than a few times, but have never played it. I’m really looking forward to it. Love to hear what others have thought of it…

Course with the grandstands should make the difference. I played it with the grandstands down and the course was wide open not real danger. Hole 16 looked like an extremely short par 3, I can only image how much of an impact the grandstands make. The back 9 has some of the best stretch of holes. Club house is amazing and there is ton of photos of past WMO winners.

My wife and I played there back in May. All in all, it was a little pricey for us, but really happy we played it.
The practice/warmup facilities are amazing, and the staff were great. The girl driving the beer cart that day was not only one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen, but very pleasant to talk to. I asked if she had any apples, and she said no, but without my asking, made a special trip to the restaurant and delivered it to me a couple holes later.
Course is great and in fantastic shape, but not what you would expect if your only experience is what you've seen on TV. Forecaddie will be a big plus. Several holes I felt like I would have played different if I knew the layout, especially the back nine.
Everybody is familiar with the 16th, but in reality it is just a short par 3. The back left edge of the green slopes off and once it gets to the end of the green it really drops off. If the pin is back left, shoot for the middle of the green.
The 11th was a challenge. Long par 4 with water on the left side of green. Stay to the right with a good tee shot for the best approach.
The 15th was my favorite. Lots of water left and it sneaks into the fairway more than expected. Also water surrounds the green.
The 17th is a rally short par 4 with a bunker in the middle of the fairway. I teed off with a 7 iron and worked out good.
Have a great round. I think you'll really enjoy it.

I live in Scottsdale and have played it numerous times. Without the grandstands, its a pretty open and easy course and it loses some of its mystique and appeal. With the grandstands up it is a real treat. Its a relatively out in front of you course. There's not alot of secrets. Make your club selection on 17 independent of others in your group. I tend to get near pin high on the right side to get past the bunkers, but laying up short is not a bad play.

Being cart path only, expect a longer round than normal. You’ll have fun and take lots of photos.
