Going to be in Scottsdale staying at Talking Stick in March, and having never played in AZ before, I wanted some help in deciding whether or not to play at the resort or head out to one of the other courses in the area.

Talking Stick has two courses on site - Piipaash and O'odam. They both look like they're well manicured and they're on property. Can't really beat the convenience.

Alternatively, Quintero is the other course that I am considering. The layout looks awesome and appears to be a real butt-kicker.

If anyone has any insight on any of these courses or has other recommendations, I'll gladly take them!

Quintero was going through a complete remodel and has been closed all summer. Not sure how soon it will reopen. You should call and make sure it will be available. It’s also way on the other side of town. Lots of very good ones in the Scottsdale area that will be close to your hotel.

I play Talking Stock quite often and they are good courses- especially with the convenience for you being right down the road during snowbird/Spring Training Season. Nice driving range and putting green as well.

We take a Boys trip up to Vegas every March to watch the New Mexico Lobos in the Mountain West Tourney. This past March we hit Wolf Creek Conestoga and Coyote springs before we went into Vegas had an absolute blast!! This March I think we're going to hit St George!! Got to love the boys trip!!

Another resort course not too far from Talking Stick is the Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix. About 20 miles travel distance, and the course there was in great condition this past march when we visited, and great practice facilities on site as well. Reasonable rates too.

We-Ko-Pa has two great courses you might consider. Not too far from where you will be staying.

We really enjoyed We-Ko-Pa when we played it a couple of years ago. About the same hike out of town as Quintero (just North East vs North West from Phoenix). We played Cholla but they have a second course (Saguaro) as well. Worth taking a look IMO - they have a few stay and play / 36 hole rates IIRC.
