  1. Picking up my first 4* bounce today. I typically play an 8* bounce but find myself in more and more creative positions and wanted to take it down. I do love a good flop and the guys are always entertained by it.

I also play in Texas were conditions are usually pretty firm.

Anyone else out there play/enjoy a 4* bounce?

Yes, I really enjoy my L grind wedge. It’s not very forgiving but a fun club if you are a skilled wedge player. Great for flop shots on tight lies and firm bunkers. Looking to try out the T Grind in the spring.
  3. I got a chance to play with it twice last week and really like it.

One shot was near impossible, sitting on the edge of a trap on sand (with the club pro watching me) and I had to fly it 25yds to a pin with the green running away. Stuck it to within a foot and the Pro said "that's one heck of an impressive shot".

Don't think I could have pulled that off with a different club.

I have a few different bounces for my 60* Vokeys, and one is an L grind. Most summer condition courses in my area (north of Boston) tend to be thicker rough, but this past summer was drought conditions. The L grind is very good from that situation but not very good with rebuilt bunkers, so I kept trying some different wedges including a D grind (ok in bunkers, not so much around the greens). I did a late season WedgeWorks raw M grind, and that seemed to be pretty effective in both bunkers (new sand had settled a fair bit by fall) and dormant grassy lies. So, having some different weapons as the seasonal conditions change is a good thing!

Best of fun as you experiment with your wedges and course conditions!
  5. I used 04L in my SM4 and SM6. Really fun club to use, but after a while I noticed myself using my 54 more and more on most shots. With SM8 I changed to 08M, can still slide under it with that grind but have that little help at the end.
