My introduction to golf was due to none other than the Myth, the Man, the Legend Tiger Woods
Also I want to thank my friend Anil Raghavan From Michigan who really pushed me into golf by giving me his previous Golden Bear Iron Set & Older Titleist & later TM burner driver. Since then I have been golfing roughly for 10 years with him. I am glad I started golf!

My mom took me to the golf course when I was 10. The pro showed me the proper grip and stance and said go play. I did. I played nine holes with mom. I have continued to play for 50 years.

My Uncle got me started on a small Michigan community golf course beyond his business. One day 46 years ago he showed up on a golf cart he drove through the woods to the shop from the course and said ‘get on, we’re going to play golf’!
I have been enjoying the ride ever sense to courses all over the US, Canada, Mexico, Germany, and Scotland.

Not sure what got me started, but remember walking to local muni with hand me down clubs. The head pro was Jim Albus, took my “life savings” and purchased a set of Titleist Club Special irons and driver. Jim would spend two hours on range with my friends and I for the price of a half hour lesson. Stopped playing for a while and my Dad got me re introduced to golf and now I am. My dad enrolled me & my brother in Junior Golf when I was 10 (1973) my dad is not a good golfer 105 was a great score for him & I am not sure he ever broke 100. But that didn't matter to him. I then went on to play high school golf lettering all 4 years & still currently play. My dad quit several years ago due to a stroke but I do once in awhile take him out on the course with me to ride around on nice weather days.

For the longest time I had told myself from watching golf on TV that it was so boring. 9 years ago my step father Alan Morse, he is 90 years young now in 10.20.2020. He somehow got me started on golf. Omg. I have always challenged myself to be the best, do my best at whatever I wanted to do. Once I started playing golf. I was done. I could not get enough. 7 years off. 6 month ago became religious.
First hole in one last July. My best game 5 birdies and shot a 73. Still playing with old miz blades and some preowned Calloway Driver and woods. Worked very hard on my short game and putting. I owe all this to Alan Morse. He can still drive around 200 yards with his driver. Not human.
I wished I would have been playing golf when I was able to walk. I would have been as good as Tiger Woods.
The best and the most challenging game I have ever played. Love this game. I have met so many incredible people who appreciate this game like I do. I practiced so hard for last 3 months and finally figured this game out. Looking forward to getting all my clubs fitted. So many heavenly golf courses out there. My first introduction was in high school when my boyfriend, who was a 6' 2" lefty took my to a pitch and putt course. I'm a 5'0" righty and could not get the ball in the air. Fast forward to when i met my husband in 1988 and he took me to a field with a shag bag and his 45 year old junior clubs. He really had patience and worked with me and a 7 iron until I could get the ball in the air. Then he signed us up for a couples 9 hole tournament and I made one good shot to a circle on the green of a par 3. That was it I was hooked. Now I play about 5-6 times a week and shot to a 15 index!

Started working in a local bank after 2 tours in Vietnam and the Head Teller ( my mentor) suggested that if I intended to make Banking my career I should take up golf. A elderly neighbor heard that I was learning to play and offered her late husband’s clubs, which were somewhere in a crawl space under her home. I retrieved them and used them to learn the game. I still have them, they were from the era when the clubs had both the name (ie niblick, etc) and the new club numbering system imbedded In the sole with a very stiff shaft. I have to say that my mentor then was right about golf and banking, it was a very good part of my 45 year career.

I just picked up the game watching Arnold Palmer, Lee Travino, Jack Nicholas, and others. My dad had some old clubs laying around, so I grabbed a couple irons, and headed to an open field, and started hitting balls. Much later I started reading golf magazines to get some tips, then started going to a range to hit balls with the knowledge I gained from reading about golf. Got better with practice and enjoy the game immensely.

Although I had caddied for Dad (outstanding amateur), or his friends, several times starting at age 12, Joe Luigs (2010 USGA Joe Dey Award), a member of our high school golf team, actually introduced me to playing the game. He suggested, when we were high school juniors, that I ask my dad to teach me how to play so I could try out for the golf team. I had three weeks to accomplish that minor miracle. Dad and/or one of his best friends, Bob Hamilton (1944 PGA champion), worked with me daily and I was able to make the team. By then, I was hooked!
I am forever grateful to Dad, Joe and Mr. Hamilton.
Today, Joe and I remain friends, I play occasionally, and I love introducing golf to my grandchildren.

Tony Holguin, head professional, and Joe Jimminez, assistant pro, of Midlothian (IL) Country Club taught caddies how to caddy and then how to play golf. You had to be there at 5:15 on a Saturday morning at the practice range when Tony and Joe taught us how to play golf. I guess Tony's fast swing and big hook were the reasons I never learned how to slice the play when first playing golf,. I was 13 when I learned about the golf swing and the great game of golf!

A buddy I grew up with who has since passed away. He got a set of Walter Hagen 3-5-7-9 starter set when we were about 8-9 years old. There was a field behind our house. We played back and forth to targets about 75 yards apart. They were his irons so he picked first. He always went with the 7-iron. That left me picking between 5 or 9 iron.

It didn't matter. We spent countless hours going back-and-forth between two targets. We graduated to par-3 course a couple of years later. And the rest is history. I've been playing for over 45 years. Never gets old.

I have the last putter he ever owned displayed in all my golf trinkets acquired over the years. Can't help but think if it wasn't for him I don't know how I would now be spending my Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

My coworker took me golfing and I instantly became addicted. Now I essentially golf and practice full time. It’s how I relax, enjoy nature, make new friends and improve myself.

Like most others in this thread, my Dad introduced me to the game. I was 8 years old and had a small Cougar set of clubs that I used. I almost immediately lived the game and mischief more importantly, spending time with my dad competing with each other. Such fun memories. Thanks Dad!

My father hen I was about ten I started caddying for him. I have been involved in the game ever since.

When I was 9 years old, my Dad got a complete set of Citation Irons and put his old Wright Dixon 3, 5, 7, and 9 irons in the garage with an old 3 wood. My brother and I buried some Tomato cans in the back yard and hit plastic practice balls to the 3 can's we'd buried. Dad took me to a course when I was 12 for my first round. Shot a 63 for my first 9 holes. I could hit the ball fine but couldn't putt. That was 53 years ago and I'm still improving. Thanks Dad!

Arnold Palmer. I watched him on TV on a small black and white screen in the 1950's or 60's. I'm too old to remember the year. I was only interested in football, basketball and baseball prior to seeing him in action. It was a few years before I actually played the game. One of my grade school classmates mentioned it was a game you can play for the rest of your life unlike the the other three sports. It made sense, so I accepted his invitation and played my first nine hole course at Lincoln Park in Milwaukee. And I have been playing golf ever since. I love the game. I will turn 77 this month.

Summer of 1968, 11 years old, Wednesday night 9 hole Elks Club league, SeaTac, WA.

I pulled my Dads cart, hit a few balls, and by the next year, I had my own clubs.

As the youngest of four and the son of a child of the depression, I think my Dad was making up for lost time. I was 14 when I started beating him and he loved every minute of it. I rarely play a round of golf without telling a story about him, and I certainly never play without thinking of him.

Last year I went to Ireland with three buddies and played 10 days of linksland golf, starting at Old Head and finishing at Lahinch. I was pulling on my rain gear under the entryway and this lovely older Irish couple were coming out of the clubhouse. “Are ya going out in the rain lad” “Oh yeah. We’re from Seattle. This is great”.”How long ya been playing Son”. I started to say “It’s a long way from Howard Lake, Minnesota” (the town where my Dad grew up). But I choked up. Couldn’t get the words out. “There, there son” “It was 50 summers ago, I said”

Other than conception, Golf is far and away the greatest gift my father ever gave me.
