Happy new year Team Titleist !

Just wanted to share my goals with you all and see what your goals are for the season ahead.

After a poor year on the course my 2 goals this season are to practice hard and get to single figures by the end of the season.

Where I play my Golf, Burghley Park in Stamford near Peterborough I have to submit 5 cards to get a true reflection of my handicap so I can play comps. At the beginning of the season I was of 10 now I’m currently sitting at 16 with 2 more cards to do.

So my promise is to update a photo after them cards and see where I’m at and then 1 at the end of the season.

Please let me know your goals.

I wish everyone a successful season and looking forward to the year ahead with TT.

Slow and easy, you’ve got this buddy, that handicap will tumble!!

My main goals are to try and stay injury free, practice more and definitely play a lot more.
Think I only played 5 medals last season and the handicap stayed the same ‍♂️

    To start playing again!

Having spent the last 18 months attempting to move house we have finally moved to the Scottish Highlands. Due to belongings being in storage I have not swung a club in a year and a half. So going forward I have now retired and will continue my golfing journey at a new club, which we have walked but not played yet (I spent 32yrs at my previous club). So interesting times ahead.

    Simon, great post.

I just want to get out and play more and certainly find and make the time to practice more.

The weather isn't being very helpful for either at the moment!

Burghley Park! I have some fond memories there! I used to be over at Greetham Valley. Maybe I'll have to make the trip back up the A1!

Great to hear your goals Simon. Mine will be to get down to scratch. Currently sitting at 1.4, it will be no easy feat! A lot of practice is needed!

There is a fantastic year for TT lined up as well, so another goal will be to create more memorable moments for you guys and to meet as many of you as possible! I am excited about this already!

Been having a think on my golf goals for 2023, and have a couple which I will be trying to hit.

Firstly, and it's probably the hardest one, is track my stats over the year, across every round (where applicable...foursomes, greensomes etc can't be done). It'll just be the basic GIR, FIR, number of putts etc...but want to get back in the habit. I don't want to use shot tracking systems, as they just get in the way, especially with the inevitable editing that is required afterwards.

Off the back of that, I want to average 35% GIR across the year, and have a scrambling average of 40%.

I've set myself the target of making 175 birdies (or better) in 2023. I had the target of 150 in 2022, and made 199...but I played a LOT of golf. To help, I also want my average Par 5 score to be 5, across the whole year. They are the obvious place to make some birdies, so hopefully can get this rocking.

A bit of a stretch goal, is to have a bogey (or worse) free round. Very tough to achieve, but we'll see how it goes.

I also want to break par at least twice this year.

Mostly, I want to try and enjoy my golf, play some good courses with like-minded folks and see where we shake out at the end of it all.

    Evening all.

Does anyone here use Coachnow app? My teacher has set me up on a app and it’s pretty cool.

I can upload videos add comments and speak with my teacher.

Trying to attach my first lesson on here but it won’t upload? Any help would be much appreciated

So a little update on the game as we speak.

Had 2 lessons with my pro and been getting out every week .

    Last 3 cards have been 81 80 & 81 playing a par 70 course.

Things are looking up so will post a new official handicap in the next few weeks

    Hi Simon,

I set my goals at the start of each season and as a 'Stats Guy' I try to improve my stats to get to the ultimate goal of the handicap reduction. These are posted by my desk so I see them every day.

This year as it was last was to get to WHS index of 9.9 and stay there. So I've set myself targets for all the stats using Strokes Gained for Tee to Green and good old PPGIR and PPG as SG isn't reflective of these.

I've just bought Shot Scope for my tracking as I used to use an app which didn't tract the clubs used. Setting my SG targets against a 10HCP gives me a good view of my current ability.

But like last year it's going to be a challenge as my home course is undergoing a major redesign so for the last 9 months we don't have a measured course for handicap and been on temporary greens for most of that time.

When I do get to play away from home it's usually matchplay or with my society where finding someone willing and able to attest my score is a challenge.

Anyway I guess not setting goals and trying to achieve them is failing from day 1 so I'll be happy with some/any improvements.

    Hi Ant!

Great to hear. Good luck with your goals this season.

i think as long as it works for you it’s great. With myself I reckon the more things I’m thinking about the more I get a little distracted on my game? I do try to keep a clear mind but I guess it works differently for everyone.

We’re is it you are playing your golf? I’m guessing your course redesign can’t be to far from completion?
  14. Just don't set the bar too high

    Set yourself realistic goals
  15. My goals are pretty simple, just control my swing tempo. When my swing tempo is just how I like it, my shots are super consistent and that is just the best feeling.

Always feel like after watching the PGA Tour or a Major that I need to get out to the course and absolutely swing my hardest like the pros... never works out!

My goal is slightly different and that is simply to practice twice a week. I feel like I see a fair bit of progress when I'm dedicated, but if I fall off the wagon too early I lose it. Twice a week, every week, no excuses and let's see how I get on. Planning on taking out a membership at a simulator facility in London, 5 bays with Trackman 4s and cameras, will be going early doors before work. Hopefully that'll ensure I keep going!

Also this year I begin my quest for Masters ballot tickets, I'm well aware that this could take me decades, but gotta be in it to win it!
  17. Completed my 2023 goal! Played Old Course St Andrews! Via Ballot too!

So over the past few weeks , I’ve been working on my driving and my short game and had some good results.

I’ve been reading Dan Grieve’s Book of late and also watched his video with Rick Shiels Golf and that was a real eye opener to the short game.

What I took from this was Grip pressure with my wedges.. I took it into practice and boy it works !

So it won’t let me upload my card on here but shot 81 today ( 21st June 2023 ) with 2 doubles on the card so I’m moving in the right direction.

Just a little update, posted a season low 78 on Tuesday.

Playing of 13 I got 41 points in the midweek stableford and won my division and second over all in all 3 divisions.

The most important part was being cut 2.7 , so now down to 10.3 which keeps me on target to get to single figures by sept/October.

    Will keep you posted.
  20. Well done.. great work

So a final update on the progress of reaching my 2023 Goals.

After some positive rounds in the past few months my Golf has been getting a lot more consistent which was one of the goals I set.

My main goal was to get to single figures before the winter tees come into effect at my club which is the end of October 2023 and also meaning I could not submit anymore cards for the year.

So unfortunately I missed my target to reach single figures and got as low as 10.3 from the start of the season being a all time high18.2.

2 years ago I was playing of 9.4 but with my father passing , my Golf was just nonexistent and wasn’t really interested, though this year has been the year to get my golf back 0n track and even though I didn’t reach the goal I’ve enjoyed the journey.

4/5 lessons with the irons and Driver has been a massive help and also working twice a week for 2 hours on the short game I can definitely see the improvement going forward.

As my playing partner said to me after my round today.. it’s been great watching you grind for your goals but you have a great chance of reaching that goal next season just remember not to push to hard and enjoy the journey, which I thought was some really sound advise.

So thanks to everyone for there comments and best wishes.

Here’s to reaching the goal in 2024

Would love to hear everyone else’s goals and achievements from the year so far.

    Simon,

Well done.. Goals are great motivators and you've obviously stepped up to the challenge.

Mine have gone in the opposite direction, mainly due to not having a home course to play on or practice facilities during the redevelopment. So I've only played on away courses and putting cards in when I can with my hcp going up as the good scores at my home club have left the 20. Next year doesn't look any better with the course not expecting to be fully playable until the autumn and then having to learn the new course and greens.

I use shot scope so I am at least trying to hit some Strokes Gained targets which I can track when playing in club matches and not hcp rounds.

I'll still set my self some goals but maybe just to get back to where I was at the beginning of 2023 by the end of 2024.

Hi Buddy, Nice to have goals and after numerous health problems I just wanted to start playing more, I did, but my index is now 6.0 from a low of 3.4. not exactly what I wanted but I know my golf is in a different place now. Although getting as albatross and at a TT event made my year so I'll take that.
Wait till I get that T200 4 iron weapon in the bag!!!!
Enjoy your winter golf and lets look forward to 2024 being better. Cheers Simon
