Sound like, as always, Titleist has a couple of winners! I'll try both, but will probably stick with by beloved AVX.

I played the black numbered ball today and it was great. I played the same ball for the full round and it seemed to feel and fly very well. I shot an 81 at a course I have never played before, so it was good for me. I will be taking the test balls to Pebble Beach the first week of December and I hope they work as well as they did today.

I've been playing the photos the past couple of weeks. I'm a very inconsistent 8.5-11.5 index and typically play Pro V1 so may be biased. The 348 proto types was noticeably higher ball flight with more spin with driver/irons so were long but a bit harder to hold my target line with my swing. The next few holes I used the 388 Proto with a lower trajectory and I perceived more role with soft conditions in Norther California. I love the comfortable feeling of the 388 around the greens and felt similar stopping/roll out around the greens. I felt more confident with the 388 although both work very well with my TSi4 + Autoflex driver and C16 irons. I mixed in some other brands of balls but nothing compares to the feel of the 388.

Thanks again for the opportunity to participate in the ball testing. I'm a Pro V1 player and found the black prototype to be similar in ball flight and spin. Maybe a tick grabbier on the chip shots. Was a bit longer as well, that may very well be a combination of my new driver and the ball. All in all seemed to be an improvement.

The red prototype flew a bit higher....which my son who is a scratch golfer says is a good thing. I'm just used to seeing the ball come out a little lower. My preference. Again many thanks for a Titleist Loyalist.

I was able to play 10 holes yesterday with both balls. I alternated which ball to tee off with given the second swing is a little better sometimes. I then played the ball in to the hole and kept score. Through 20 combined holes, I was 1 over. I shot even with the X and 1 over with the V.

Both balls played almost identical to each other. The V does carry more spin so when I hit my little high right flare, the V moved a lot more on me. Nothing really bad but noticeable enough.

The X for me is longer. When I hit the V solid it was where I would expect my drive to be. I missed the X on a couple of drives, and it was about 10 yards short of where the V was after hitting the V solid off the tee. When I hit the X solid, it was about a club longer than the V.

The V is a long golf ball, but the X is just longer for me.

Apex height wise the V is a fraction higher, but the X had plenty of height for the ball to stop quickly.

The V does spin more and on some full shots that landed within a few feet of the pin, it spun back farther than I like to see.

All in all, I am going to stick with the X in 2023. I am just dialed in to what the ball does, I love the fact the X for me holds its line so well.

I can easily play the V and play well after an adjustment period, but X just has everything I am looking for.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the X or the V, comes down to your own personal choice and game.

388 Proto – This was my favorite ball. I loved the feel of the ball off of all clubs, driver to putter. This ball provided the right amount of spin and I felt like I had more control of the ball. One of the challenges I have at my weekly course is the soft greens in the winter and too much spin on my wedges. I felt that the 388 had less spin on the under 100 yard wedge shots but the right amount of spin on the 100 yd+ shots. I could calc my yardage and not worry about spinning it back 10+ yards. Around the greens I really like the soft feel off the wednges. I feel the 388 did give me some added distance but it’s hard to tell with weather changing and wetter conditions.
384 Proto – This ball feels really hot off the club face. A bit firmer and “clickier” off the driver. More spin with the short irons so it was a challenge on the softer greens trying to get yardages correct with the added spin. Chipping around the greens the ball just felt a bit too firm for my taste but I did like the spin control. Same comment about putting, just a bit too firm.
Overall assuming the 388 Proto is the Prov1 which is what I play, I am looking forward to next generation of balls! Also as a side note both balls held up very well to play. I was able to use each type of ball for several rounds before having to change it out.

I've really enjoyed putting these in play and to practice over the past couple weeks. I've only gotten two rounds in, but several putting and chipping sessions.

My Thoughts.

Someone told me or I read somewhere that these two versions (2023) may be closer to each other in performance than any previous two versions. I don't know if that is true or what, but it seems to be what i found in my limited testing so far.

Proto 348
Seem most similar to my current 2021 ProV1x in flight and spin. I am able to get a bit of back spin on my mid iron and wedge shots into the green. Longer irons may not spin much upon landing for me, but definitely hold the green enough that I'm not worried about the ball hitting and running off the green.

Feel and sound, they are a lot like my current VX in that regard, a noticiable click and firm feel off the putter and on chips.

Proto 388
Not a huge difference in spin performacne again to the naked eye. Maybe not as much backspin on wedges into the green, more of a stop and hold the spot or maybe release a couple feet. But definitly enough spin to hold the green with the irons.

Feel and Sound, I really became enamored with the softer feel and ound, especially off the putter. I use a milled putter so the balls tend to have more sound on those versus insert putters. But the 388 was very soft sounding, and It made me realize why I went with ProV1 in the first place over 10 years ago.

Summary
While I don't have any LM data yet on these, I should be getting my indoor hitting/LM station set up in the next week or so I feel I have seen enough from the performan of both to see how they play for me.

So I guess you can say thngs will have come full circle. I started playing ProV1 about 10 years ago and loved everything about it. I never even considered the V1x until going through a Titleist ball fitting several years ago, and the rep suggested I try the X based on wanting to get a bit more height and distance. So I have been playing it the past 4 or 5 years.

But I really got addicted to the sound/feel of the 388 during this brief testing period. I'll wait and see what some LM number show me, but assuming the performacne are close as the were on course when I tried them, I will be switching back to ProV1 in 2023.

As always I appreicate Titleist for giving us the opportunity to test these for ourself and offer our thoughts.

Received a sleeve of each ball. The proto Pro V1 was way too much spin for my impact metrics (2* open face and 2* across path with center impact is my average impact numbers). I long ago switched to AVX when they came out and for me, there is no other ball that comes close to that for someone who doesn't always square up the face and path of the driver at impact. Now, when I do have those days of almost square and almost square the best ball for me then becomes the Pro V1 (especially the last iteration). However, in my test this time, the proto Pro V1 spun too much and the proto Pro V1x played better. I did get to buy 2 boxes of Left Dot 2 last year or the year before and they were THE BEST Pro V1 model no matter what was going on. I would say this is the best Pro V1 for me when I am really on with my face and impact angles but since I can't buy them at will I have to say the Pro V1 is the best during those rounds. The Left Dot added a lot of extra distance with driver and irons. But, still, the AVX is my go-to ball during times when I am struggling.

In Summary, I did not notice much with the two sleeves of Pro V1 that were sent except they felt a tad bit softer and the proto Pro V1 seemed to spin more off the driver whereas the Pro V1x spin off driver was manageable.

I had a great experience testing out the new PROTO’S up here in Washington the State and I was also able to test down in El Paso,Texas on a recent trip(Painted Dunes). I like that both golf balls were very similar to me in the feel aspect(softer). While I game the Pro Vx I did like the newer version better due to distance gains(4-5) yards in El Paso and (2-3) yards up at home in Washington. Weather in October and November were a big factor in both states. The improved short game spin I felt was outstanding with the X and the 1! I do love the X overall due to more control off of my T200 irons and SM9 wedges

A bit confused as I received two “white box” sleeves..they are numbered 348/380 ..how do I know which are 1’s and 1x’s ?

I tested the proto ProV1x while on a golf trip to Biloxi MS in early November while at the same time broke out my new TSR3 driver. Accuracy and distance off the tee was notable with estimated carry 275-280 yards and 290-300 yards with roll out on soft Bermuda fairways . A testament to both the ball and the new driver.
Bermuda greens, however, were very firm and very quick and I found the proto ball to be responsive and hold the greens well.
Will be testing the ProV1 in the coming weeks, weather permitting.

I tested the ball with 2 of my friends, we all thought the ball was soft and went as far as the titleist pro
V 1.

Played both- loved the durability. Felt I was a few yards longer with each. ProV1 spun more for me but preferred prov1 x overall. Titleist just keeps raising the bar on golf ball performance. Kudos ️

Played the V!x last week. Local muni greens are rock hard a blazing fast! I'm talking like 11-12 on the stimp meter. Nice clickey feel off the driver and irons. I don't generate a lot of spin but the balls were holding the greens. Played a few chip shots, hit some nice spinners that locked up nicely. I was able to dial in the speed with this ball when putting. Overall performance and durability with this ball was excellent.

I finally had the opportunity to take advantage of this honor from Titleist. Crazy schedule has delayed my testing and I finally got in a couple rounds with the new balls. Findings:

Sound: I like the should coming from both off the club face, especially the putter.
Feel: Overall, I liked the feel of the 388 over the 348. Softer in my opinion.
Trajectory: I found the 348 to be a little lower. The 388 was more to my liking.
Stopping power: Here, I had better success with the 348. Not even close.
Distance: Here, the 388 comes out on top. I think the trajectory contributed to this.
Verdict: For me, I give the nod to the 388.

Played the 388 and 348 for 9 holes each.. Both have great feel. Checking on approach shots where very consistent with both. The 348 seemed to have abit more in th tank off the tee. Putting feel was similar between the two. Really liked the feel with the irons also. My choice would be the 348
